One of the shields in production for Leonardo’s OTO Melara 76/62 super rapid naval gun left from our factory

One of the shields in production for Leonardo’s super-fast OTO Melara 76/62 naval gun left the Aviorec Composites plant in Anagni in recent days. The 76/62 naval gun is one of the main defense products built by Leonardo, as well as one of the most appreciated, and is suitable for anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense and for point defense, but it is a versatile weapon that can also be used for naval and coastal bombing. The OTO Melara 76/62 was designed to be installed on any class of ship and is suitable for both conventional and asymmetric warfare operations.

The shield is an essential component of the cannon, with Stealth technology that reduces the total equivalent radar cross-section (radar cross-section / RCS) of the ship on which it is installed.

Aviorec is producing both the shields for the OTO Melara 76/62 naval guns and those for the larger OTO Melara 127/64, confirming itself among the top companies in the Italian defense sector, as well as one of the few to produce materials and components for the aerospace, maritime and land domains.

“We are very proud of the work we have done and are doing – explains the CEO of Aviorec, Jacopo Recchia – because it is the demonstration of Aviorec’s ability to play an important role within a particularly selective market such as that of materials for defence. The production of shields for naval guns strengthens our already very strong partnership with Leonardo”.
